What the Heck is a Consulting Hypnotist?
Therapeutic Hypnosis is an amazing and often misunderstood healing modality. This is not stage hypnosis that will have people quacking like ducks.
What we teach is a practiced and effective
technique for how to reprogram the subconscious mind. Clients come to hypnotists with a problem they need help with. This could be a smoking habit, a fear of heights, test anxiety, or a hundred other similar ailments.
A Consulting Hypnotist or Hypnotherapist will then hold a healing session and use one of a number of techniques to get a desired result. If the client wants to quit smoking, we help them do that. If they want to be rid of a phobia of needles, we help it disappear.
Sometimes change comes in one session, sometimes in several, but the power of hypnosis for healing is well established.
And often times extraordinary.

Learn the Skills and Get Certified
Where to Start?
So, how does one become a Consulting Hypnotist or Hypnotherapist? It's just like any other skill; find a master and learn how to do it. The most widely recognized Hypnosis Certification is through the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH). They oversee and regulate hypnosis instruction and are internationally recognized as an authority in the field.
The good news?Hypnosis doesn't require any previous experience to learn. We have students from many different backgrounds, only some of which are medical or therapy based. We also teach massage therapists, retirees, nurses, musicians, teachers, firefighters, ex-truckers, and people from all walks of life.
We offer the skills, training, and practice beyond even what NGH requires. Beyond the basic skill of Trance Hypnosis, we train students in Conversational Hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic Programming. This gives our students more approaches and a better toolset when working with clients.
One you learn the skills, you will take one open book test for official certification. At than point, you are able to start offering your services professionally.

Establishing yourself as an operational business is fairly straightforward. It it's essence, it's a three step process:

But where will you hold sessions? We've outlined some options below.
Option 1: Work From Home
If you have a spare room and are allowed in your jurisdiction to take clients in your home, you can easily set it up to have clients come directly to you.
Option 2: Rent an Office
Rent on your own or share a space with another professional such as a massage therapists, acupuncturist, or talk therapist.
Option 3: Run Sessions over Zoom
The lockdowns of 2020 showed us just how easy and effective it is to run online hypnosis sessions. This option is convenient for you and the client and also allows you to work with clients from all over the world.

Decide Who You Want to Help
Who Do You Love?
A simple approach to a meaningful career in hypnosis is to work with people who you can both connect with and are inspired to help.
There are many different ways to determine what is right for you. We recommend brainstorming on a large piece of paper with the following prompts:
1.) Who are you naturally drawn to work with?
2.) What issues have you had personal contact with? Either yourself or through those close to you? Would it make sense to help others facing those same issues?
3.) Is there any group you feel is in need and is overlooked?
For example, perhaps you struggled with an eating disorder in your early 20's. Now, you are interested in working with others who are in a similar situation. So you decide that you'd like to specialize in working with people who suffer with self-esteem and diet who are 15-30 years old.
The same is true of substance abuse issues, self-esteem, anxiety issues, weight management, anger issues, social anxiety, relationships, grief and so much more.
Strategy 1: Make it Personal
Oftentimes the most meaning comes from helping a group of people we feel connected to. This connection often comes from sharing a personal struggle. For example, if you struggled with substance abuse, you can help people with a similar struggle. Or it might be that you had a parent or sibling who struggled with stress and overwhelm, so you find meaning in helping others overcome the same challenges.
Strategy 2: Focus on A Single Issue
As you establish yourself and your new practice, one known strategy is to become an expert in a single area. For example, if you are interested in helping people manage their weight and live healthier and more active lives, then you can start with becoming well versed in solutions and valuable approaches to just that.

Figure out your ideal style of work.
What is your ideal style of work?
Is it 1 on 1 sessions? Do you prefer to do group work and bring people together? Would you rather create courses and programs to help others guide themselves to a better place?
